According to the 2024 Mississippi Autism Advisory Committee Report, MS ranks 42nd in access to mental health care, which includes services for autism diagnosis and treatment.

In Hancock County, access to autism services is limited. Families often face long wait times for evaluations and therapy, and many must travel significant distances to find specialized care.

This lack of local resources means that children may go without early intervention, which is crucial for their development and well-being.

At Caiden’s Corner, we’re committed to bridging this gap. We believe every child deserves access to the support they need, right in their own community.

I used to think I understood Autism—until I became a parent.

And then I realized how much the world doesn’t see.

How quick people are to judge.
How often kindness is replaced with stares.
How exhausting it is to constantly explain that your child isn’t being “bad”—they’re just overwhelmed.

So today, I want to share 3 things I wish more people understood:

It’s not bad behavior—it’s sensory overload.
The lights are too bright. The room’s too loud. The tag on the shirt hurts. And it builds up until their body can’t handle it anymore.

A meltdown isn’t a tantrum.
They’re not trying to manipulate or get attention. They’re trying to survive a world that doesn’t always feel safe.

Autism doesn’t need to be “fixed.”
It needs to be supported—with patience, structure, and spaces where neurodivergent kids feel seen, not shamed.

That’s why I started Caiden’s Corner.
Because families like mine deserve more than understanding…we deserve support.

This month, LJ’s softball team pulled off something that completely caught us by surprise…Autism Awareness jerseys for the whole team.

Autism doesn’t always look the way you think it does.

It’s not always meltdowns.
Or silence.
Or a child sitting alone in the corner.

Sometimes, it looks like:
– A boy sliding down the pool slide three times in a row
– Covering his ears because headphones feel wrong
– Cutting in line, not out of rudeness—but impulse
– Touching someone’s shoulder because he’s excited, not inappropriate

As a mom, I’ve learned to stop apologizing for how my son moves through the world.

I don’t share these moments for pity—I share them for perspective.
Because Autism is a spectrum, and compassion should be too.
